"Detroit Divas" is one of a series of four images that I created on the subject "A Celebration of Black Music". I grew up on the Motown Sound, dancing to the music of iconic female singing groups like the Supremes, the Shirelles and Martha & The Vandellas. The glamorous images cultivated by these artists made them fashion and beauty icons for African-American women of the 60s and 70s. It was always a treat to see them performing on variety shows like Soul Train and Ed Sullivan. This piece was featured at the 17th Annual African-American Fiber Art Exhibition sponsored by the City of North Charleston (SC) Cultural Arts department (May 1-June 16, 2024).
